Luminescence investigations of Ytterbium activated strontium aluminate phosphors prepared using the sol gel method are described. The phosphor has been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope. Optical properties were studied by photoluminescence spectra. Photoluminescence studies of the prepared phosphors showed prominent IR emission, apart from near band edge emission and green emission.
